Water Management
Efficient Water Use, Responsible Effluent Management
Sustainable Water Management
The Group recognises water as a critical natural resource and a key operational dependency, supporting both production processes and daily operations across its business segments. Each identified water risk in water management has been addressed through targeted initiatives and strategies aimed at minimising environmental impact and reducing the Group’s water footprint in daily operations.
01 Water Usage Monitoring and Efficiency
Installation of water meters to track and document usage.
02 Water Recycling and Conservation
Rainwater harvesting through ponds and storage tanks. Employee training on water-saving practices. Signage to remind staff about water conservation.
03 Water Quality Monitoring and Treatment
Regular water analysis by external consultants. Proper wastewater treatment before discharge.
04 Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Practices
Establishment of buffer zones to protect watercourses. Proper handling and application of pesticides/herbicides.
05 Pollution and Waste Prevention
Proper septic tank installation and maintenance. Silt traps to filter runoff before reaching watercourses.
Water Management Plans
Baram River Adjacent to the Estate
Water management plans, which include action plans, designated personnel, proposed budgets, plan dates and actual completion dates, are reviewed annually to achieve targets for reducing water consumption and ensuring usage remains below the baseline.
The Group has implemented water management plans at several operational sites. Currently, 45.7% of the Group’s active operation sites have implemented water management plans.
The Group is working to expand water management plans across all operational sites to ensure responsible water stewardship and reduce environmental impact across all business segments.
Water Stress and Responsible Management
Out of our 35 operational sites, only 1 site (2.9%) is located in a high water-stress region. In FY2025, this site contributed just 4.63% of Group revenue, reflecting our limited exposure to water-related risks.
Water Management in Water-Stressed Regions
We actively manage water use, even in areas of scarcity:
Volume of Water Withdrawn by Source (FY2023–FY2025)
Year-on-Year Water Consumption Overview (FY2023–FY2025)
Water Consumption Intensity Performance
We regularly monitor water consumption intensity to assess the efficiency of water use in our operations and identify opportunities for improvement over time.

Our Effluent Discharge
At the WTK’s palm oil mill, Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) is treated using an anaerobic biogas ponding system (Modified Cover Lagoon), followed by a final polishing stage in an extended aeration pond to reduce BOD levels below regulatory limits.
Strict processes and internal controls are enforced to ensure proper POME treatment and regulatory compliance, with sample testing conducted before discharge. In FY2025, approximately 237,503 m³ of POME was treated.

Compliance with Water Regulations
The Group is dedicated to meeting all water quality and quantity permits, standards, and regulations. We are pleased to report zero (0) incidents of non-compliance across all operations.
Both BioBest Venture Sdn. Bhd. and Biogrow City Plantations Sdn. Bhd. (Palm Oil Mill) consistently meet 100% of DOE requirements for water discharge from their effluent treatment plants into Sungai Sekaloh and Sungai Menuang, respectively. This achievement highlights our water management practices and commitment to upholding the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
