Waste Management

Reducing Waste, Preserving Tomorrow

Waste Management

The Group prioritises effective waste management, recognising that our operations generate both hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The waste generated largely stems from operational inputs and processes, such as raw material consumption, production activities, packaging and administrative functions.

The ultimate goal is to minimise waste production through the application of circular economic principles by identifying opportunities across the value chain to reduce, reuse and recycle materials, significantly decreasing the amount of waste generated.

Our Approach

The Group introduced a systematic approach to monitoring and recording waste generation across all business segments.

Waste-Related Data Monitoring and Reporting

Reporting of scheduled waste data through the DOE’s Electronic Scheduled Waste Information System (eSWIS).

For the tapes segment, manufacturing waste data is reported monthly via the official portal of the Penang Island City Council.

Waste Reduction and Recycling

Implementing waste reduction strategies, recycling programmes, and responsible disposal methods aims to lower the environmental footprint while maximising resource recovery.

Training and Awareness

The Group conducts internal training on scheduled waste and recycling to enhance employee awareness and ensure compliance with waste management practices. Additionally, designated executives complete the Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management (CePSWaM) training to ensure compliance with DOE regulations.

Reuse Waste

Materials such as tyres, fertiliser bags, chemical jars and drums were reused after thorough cleaning in accordance with SOPs to reduce waste disposal to landfill.

Transparency in Raw Material Consumption

We emphasise transparency in raw material usage as part of our approach to efficiency, waste reduction and minimising environmental impact. By monitoring raw material consumption across our key business segments, we are able to identify areas for improvement and enhance resource efficiency.

Performance

The table below provides a detailed overview of the Group’s waste generation, waste disposal and waste diverted from disposal from FY2023 to FY2025, highlighting waste streams such as scheduled waste, landfill disposal and by-products like empty fruit bunches and decanter cakes.

These figures reflect efforts to enhance sustainability through waste reduction strategies, including the use of by-products for mulching and biomass for energy. Waste diverted from disposed decreased from 118,607.7 MT in FY2024 to 78,420.7 MT in FY2025 through initiatives such as reuse, recycling and operational recovery. However, overall waste diversion rate declined to 68.0% due to higher volumes of waste disposal in FY2025.
