Rights of Indigenous People
Honouring Indigenous Rights, Driving Inclusive Development
Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC)
The Group's operations, particularly in the timber and plantation sectors, are located near the traditional lands of Indigenous peoples, who are recognised as the original inhabitants with distinct social, cultural, and economic practices. These activities have a direct impact on their livelihoods. The Group respects the legal and customary rights of Indigenous peoples, acknowledging their deep connection to the land and their unique cultural and economic traditions. To safeguard these rights, WTK has implemented the Rights of Indigenous People and Local Communities Policy, ensuring that their interests are protected and considered in our operations.
▸What is FPIC?
Any use or expansion of the Group's operations follows the FPIC procedure. This ensures that Indigenous communities are fully informed about potential impacts on their lands and can freely give or withhold consent without pressure.
▸How is FPIC implemented?
The FPIC process involves transparent discussions and negotiations, ensuring that Indigenous voices are heard before any activities begin. For instance, as part of our Forest Management Certification (FMC) application process, we conduct dialogues with local longhouse residents.

Community Engagement Platforms
Community Representative Committee (CRC)
Employer–Employee Committee (EEC)
The CRC and EEC address grievances, social issues and land rights claims following the Standard Operating Procedure adopted by the FMU. The Group proactively assesses human rights impacts through regular Social Impact Assessments (SIA). In FY2024, plantation segment completed one SIA.
Social monitoring visits are conducted on a regular basis to longhouses near FMUs to explain sustainable forest management practices, foster collaboration and address concern. Positive feedback received during these visits highlights improved understanding and stronger community relationships.

Commitment to Indigenous Rights
We are proud to report that in Year 2024, no incidents of violations of Indigenous rights were reported at any of our sites.

Complaint and Grievance Mechanism
All employees and external stakeholders shall have the opportunity to participate in the grievance resolution process without fear of retaliation, interference, coercion or discrimination. Confidentiality will be maintained, subject to legal disclosure requirements and the principles of natural justice.
In timber segment, grievance channels such as the Community Representative Committee (CRC) and the Forest Management Certification Liaison Committee (FMCLC) are in place to address concerns raised by local communities and workers, including issues related to service conditions, housing and other relevant matters.
All grievances from local communities and Indigenous peoples are managed in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOP). For detailed procedures, please refer to the information here.
