Understanding Our Impact and Driving Change

WTK recognises the impact of greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions on climate change. A carbon footprint analysis identifies opportunities to reduce energy consumption and emissions. Climate change presents both risks and opportunities across our operations, influencing resource availability, efficiency, and market demand, while driving innovations in sustainability.
Scope 1 GHG Emission
Direct GHG emissions that occur from sources that are controlled or owned by WTK and the Group
| Business Segments | Scope 1 GHG Emission (MtCO₂e) |

Emissions from the food segment have not been disclosed yet in 2023. However, monitoring of emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 commenced in 2024. The emissions data for the food segment will be included in the WTK Sustainability Statement 2024.

Our Emission Reduction Measures

01 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
By cutting down on raw material use, reusing resources where possible, and recycling waste to lower overall environmental impact.

02 Enhancing In-Field Coordination
Enhancing coordination of in-field activities—harvesting, manuring, maintenance, and transportation—to optimise efficiency and reduce material consumption.

03 Installation of New Machineries
A new solvent recovery system reduces greenhouse gas emissions by capturing and reusing solvents, lowering raw material consumption, energy use, and waste in tapes segment.

04 Prohibition of Open Burning
For the plantation segment, old palms are chipped instead of openly burned to prevent the release of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases that would result from combustion. No fire outbreaks were reported in 2023.
Climate Change Risk Assessment in FMU Operations
WTK has conducted a climate change risk assessment across our FMU operations. The assessment identified key risks such as carbon emissions from tree harvesting, environmental pollution, fossil fuel use, lubricants, and potential forest fires. For more information on the mitigation measures in place to address these risks, please refer to our detailed climate measures for FMU operations, including the Entulu-Melatai FMU and Mengiong–Gaat FMU.
