Decarbonisation Strategy

Advancing Low-Carbon Transitions, Step by Step

Our Decarbonisation Strategies

WTK is aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and supports the global ambition to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Guided by the IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures, we have developed a structured decarbonisation roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our operations and value chain.

Our approach targets all three emission scopes, supported by a clear GHG baseline year (FY2023) and measurable targets to drive progress toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.

Our Targets

Category Target Target Year Baseline
Scope 1 Reduce by 10% FY2030 FY2023
Scope 2 Reduce by 5% FY2030 FY2023
Scope 3 Improve data granularity and initiate reduction strategies for material categories FY2028 FY2023
Carbon Intensity Reduce by 30% per business segment FY2028 FY2023
Long-Term Goal Achieve net zero GHG emissions FY2050 -

Scope 1 & 2
Reduction Initiatives

Decarbonising Energy and Operations for a Greener Future

Energy Efficiency Improvements

Integrating LED lighting, energy-saving motors and smart monitoring systems across operations.

Renewable Energy Adoption

Installed solar panels for road lighting and is progressively evaluating broader deployment, while also transitioning to renewable electricity from Sarawak Energy to reduce reliance on diesel and fossil-based grid power.

Gradual Phase-Out of High-Carbon Assets

Replacing fossil fuel-based equipment with electric or hybrid alternatives and retrofitting facilities for better energy performance.

Scope 3 Emission Reduction Strategies

01 Purchased Goods and Services

  • Sourcing from local suppliers to reduce transport-related emissions and strengthen regional supply chains
  • Minimising procurement waste by optimising order volumes and avoiding overstocking of materials.
  • Embedding sustainability preferences in purchase orders to encourage suppliers to offer lower-carbon alternatives.

02 Fuel- and Energy-Related Activities

  • Turn off equipment when not in use (including vehicles, generators and compressors) to save fuel and reduce indirect emissions.
  • Provide simple training on eco-driving techniques (gentle acceleration, minimal idling, optimal gear shifting) to reduce fuel use in company vehicles or forklifts.

03 Transportation and Distribution

  • Selecting local suppliers to shorten transportation distances and reduce fuel consumption.
  • Scheduling shipments during off-peak hours to avoid congestion and improve fuel efficiency.
  • Coordinating deliveries to maximise load efficiency and reduce the number of trips required.

04 Waste Generated in Operations

  • Implementing clear waste labelling and colour-coded bins to improve segregation at source and increase recycling rates.
  • Training employees on daily waste handling practices to prevent contamination of recyclables and reduce landfill dependency.
  • Introducing digital documentation and e-invoicing to reduce paper-based waste.

05 Business Travel and Employee Commuting

  • Encouraging virtual participation in meetings, conferences and training when physical attendance is non-essential.
  • Establishing pre-approval for long-distance travel to discourage unnecessary trips.
  • Promoting carpooling and public transport

Capital Investment in Low-/Zero-Carbon Solutions

Capital allocation is being prioritised for projects and technologies that offer carbon reduction potential. This includes funding for renewable energy solutions, sustainable operational practices and modern infrastructure upgrades.

Sustainable Land Use Practices

The Group promotes responsible land use through certified sustainable forest management and MSPO-compliant palm oil production. These practices enhance carbon sequestration, conserve biodiversity and support environmentally and socially responsible operations, contributing to emission reductions and long-term sustainability

Offsetting Residual Emissions

To address residual emissions, we are exploring the use of carbon credits as an offsetting mechanism. This balanced approach supports our long-term climate strategy by complementing direct reduction efforts with credible offset initiatives.

Driving Progress Forward

Our decarbonisation roadmap is integrated into corporate decision-making and operational planning. Progress is overseen by the Board of Directors, supported by the Sustainability Working Committee and designated Sustainability Coordinators across the Group.

As we continue to refine our data, improve transparency and scale impactful solutions, WTK remains focused on building a sustainable future in line with global climate goals.
